Autumn 2 2024

English: As writers we will be exploring the playscript The Tempest by William Shakespeare and Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. We will be developing our writing skills using role play, discussion and writing activities.
English: As readers we will be developing our comprehension skills and apply our understanding of the text Cogheart by Peter Bunzl. We use a range of strategies to identify key information, decode unfamiliar words (ALIEN WORDS) and infer the language the author uses to express a point of view or describe an event. 
Design & Technology: Mechanical Systems (Storybook popup) - We will will produce and assemble our own book using a range of mechanisms and structures to illustrate a story and make it interactive for the users.
Art: Painting - As artists we will continue to develop our creative drawing skills with typography. We will study examples of Street Art as a genre and develop visual literacy to observe and reflect on a range of artwork in this style.  This term the class will focus on selecting and mixing colour harmonies and use these to create our own art, describing the effect these colours create.  Then we will have the opportunity to reflect on the styles and techniques in previous art learning and select from a range of materials to create our own art, sharing ideas with others. Finally we will study the work of designers.
Maths: As mathematicians we will continue solving problems using fractions using a range of strategies. As a class we continue to develop our fluency skills by completing a 5 minute times tables challenge and Doodle Maths.
Science: As scientists we will be broadening our experience of the properties of materials,  investigate hardness, transparency and conductivity and consider how these properties influence the uses of materials. We will explore reversible changes, including dissolving and changes of state.
Religious Education: What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today? We will extend our learning about Muslim beliefs about God, the Prophet and the Holy Qur’an.  We will find out about Muslim sources of authority and how they guide daily living for believers. Also we will learn about ibadah and links to the Five Pillars, festivals, and places of worship. 
 

Computing: Creating media - Video production - We will be learning how to create short videos and develop the skills of capturing, editing, and manipulating video. Guided with step-by-step support to take our ideas from conception to completion. At the conclusion of the unit, we will have the opportunity to reflect on and assess their progress in creating a video.
