The children will explore different types of mixtures and the different methods that can be used to separate them. They dissolve a range of substances, identify different solutions and investigate how temperature affects the time taken to dissolve. They design and create a water filter, sieve soil and evaporate solutions.
We will be investigating the Enquiry Question: How do volcanoes affect the lives of people living on Hiemaey?
Children will spend time researching and adapting a traditional recipe. They will select ingredients and add nutritional values then prepare and cook their own version of a Bolognese.
Computing systems and networks - Systems and searching
Children develop their understanding of computer systems and how information is transferred between systems and devices. They consider small-scale systems as well as large-scale systems and explain the input, output, and process aspects of a variety of different real-world systems. Children discover how information is found on the World Wide Web, through learning how search engines work (including how they select and rank results) what influences searching, and comparing different search engines.
The children will begin by planning the forthcoming year. They will then move on to consider what being a citizen means and reflect on rights and responsibilities. They will look at rewards and consequences and consider how behaviour affects groups. Finally the children will learn about democracy and having a voice. participating.
Children will learn about what Christians believe God is like, exploring key texts from the Bible, using ways of knowing that theologians use. They will study passages from the book of Isaiah and Psalm 103 (Old Testament) and the book of 1 John (New Testament) to work out some ways the Bible says that God is both holy and loving. Children will learn how to use key vocabulary such as 'omnipotent, omniscient and eternal' to describe the Christian view of God. They will link their learning in this topic to other concepts studied to suggest why Christians believe that God is forgiving and loving, showing the impact that sin can have on the lives of believers. Children will be able to explain that for most Christians, getting to know God is like getting to know a person.
The children will learn about Duration by finding out how to maintain the pulse using the voice and body and understanding the difference between on and off beats. Then they will explore using on and off beats in different musical styles and learn about syncopated rhythms. Finally they will explore ostinatos and understand polyrythms.
By the end of this unit pupils will have the knowledge and skills to present themselves both orally and in written form in French. This is one of the first units where previously learnt language will be integrated with newly acquired language, encouraging all pupils to use their growing bank of vocabulary. In this unit pupils focus on asking questions as well as providing accurate replies. They will demonstrate a growing understanding of grammar to manipulate language and start to create sentences of their own using a range of personal details including name, age, where they live and nationality.
